The first three weeks

School has started well, we have to big projects going on in school and I'm almost starting to get the hold of them. Now we are mostly sketching and building up ideas, in 4 weeks the projects should be finished and then we'll start 2 new ones.

Besides school I have just gotten to  know new people, the city and tried climbing on a wall first time. It was pretty scary but I want to try it again! A while ago we had a Finnish evening, I cooked and friends from the Erasmus group came here to eat. We are planning a German, Italian and Czech evenings as well.

But so far I've liked it here. I'll try to get pictures for the next one!

Modules, not easy to understand

The first week in school has been interesting and mostly just trying to find my way to the right lessons. Here I had to choose 3-5 modules which consist of 4 hours of school per week, lectures and labs. I took 4, Aesthetic foundation and form, Ergonomics Foundation, Product prototyping and Development and Design Realisation - Concept to Product. All of them sound interesting and I'm excited to attend to the projects they offer.

University of Limerick also offers a variety of societies in which you can join for a fee of 5€. I registered for Outdoor Pursuit Club and will register for International Society. Both have trips around Ireland, in OPC you can try caving, mountain climbing, orienteering etc. International Society has movie nights, trips and many more fun social events.

Cliffs of Moher & Galway

Today we went to Cliffs of Moher and to a pub in Galway to see the final game of hurling, Tipperary - Kilkenny. What a weird sport. Here's some pictures of the cliffs and Galway.

Orientation

The first day of school started at 8.45 with registration and a welcome speech from Jean Monnet. I got to know so much new people from the Erasmus group, from Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Austria, The Czech Republic and many more. The first part of the day consisted mainly of talking about the modules we are taking and how to choose them. The next part was to divide into smaller groups and walk around the campus area to find all important places, like the Arena, offices etc and get to know the people in that group. Later in the evening we went to Stables bar with the group to eat and talk.

The second orientation day started at 9, with people from school and student societies telling about the usual past time events, safety and how to activate your e-mail account. The rest of the day was more enjoyable; I got my bicycle, spend time with other Erasmus people and went to the Stables bar for some speed dating where I met a lot new people from all over the world.

On Saturday we went to the MilkMarket, where they sell for example fresh vegetables, meat, fish and cheese.  The city center is pretty small but nice, many shopping centres, cafes and restaurants. Overall the weather has been sunny and warm since Tuesday, all I've met are friendly and really good "guys".

Arriving to Ireland

The flight departed at 13.30 to Dublin and we landed 3 hours 20 minutes later. The weather was absolutely fantastic, +20 degrees and the sun was shining. The first thing I had in mind was to find a place to sleep and lock the stuff I brought with me somewhere. We took a taxi with Kai to the Heuston railway station and found a nice Bed&Breakfast called Tipperary house. We went to the center to see some of the city and get something to eat. Picture from Dublin.

After the night we had a pleasant breakfast and the owner of the B&B offered to ask about the ticket prices to Limerick and let us use his computer to buy the tickets online. It was about 50% cheaper that way, thanks to that friendly man. The train left at 11am and took 2,5 hours. After arriving to Limerick, I took a taxi to Courtyard Student Village and have been here since. I found a store nearby, called ALDI. I also have two really nice roommates, one from France and another one from Germany.
